Living an unboring existence in Bucerias

For over a year now, I've been blogging mostly once a month. Someone in my writer's group gave me a double take when I said this the other day. His expression lead me to analysis why my blogging has slipped off the radar.

Why do I blog only once a month?

Even then I'm not really blogging. My guest host Phyllis answers questions during our Ask PZM segment for the IWSG first Wednesday of the month. And occasionally, my very funny friend, Hank Quense blogs about something hysterical.

So, technically, it's not me blogging.

After deep contemplation, I think I've discovered why I hesitate to blog. I worry that I've become boring. Not sure if it's my age, my lifestyle, or my laid back attitude.

In one of her books, Sylvia Brown said that Taurus are the most boring of the zodiac signs. Sylvia wasn't exactly an authority on signs, though she was a psychic. But since reading her comment, six years past, I've been asking people if they agree. Everyone knows a Taurus. You may even have one or more in your immediate space. Are they boring?

I'm seeking honest answers. Be kind, but not too blunt. And don't worry about me. I'm searching online this very moment to see how I can undo my boringness.

  1. You don't bore me, but I understand the reluctance to blog often, as you know from seeing how rarely I post. My reasons for infrequent blogs are similar to yours plus the "does anyone really want/need to know this?" factor. Sometimes I ignore inclinations and try to be "chatty," but then I end up editing out half my words the next day. Now I'll post this reply and wish I could edit out 50% of the words. Too late, it's posted. *smile*

    1. Keith, it would be a freezing day in Nayarit before you could every be too chatty for me. Thanks, buddy.

  2. Hi Joylene - I think if you're interested in what you're writing about then others will be too ... I used to love hearing about your lake - not sure what it's doing this year ... probably slowly becoming a hot spring - it's 'warm' here ... over 60 deg F and that's warm for December!

It's go for it when you go for it .. if you're laid back and happy and Phyllis is doing her thing - then so be it!

I have a friend who's a Taurean - and I'm happy to let her do her own thing - it's easier that way!!!

Cheers and enjoy the warmth .. Happy Christmas and 2016 .. Hilary

    1. Thanks for your kind words, Hilary. I will try to write more about Cluculz Lake and Bucerias. Love hearing about your adventures.

  3. First, I have no idea if I know any Taurus as Zodiac stuff doesn't interest me. Second, you aren't boring! Third, it's nice to have YOU blogging. In fact, your IWSG posts should be from you. Have PZM pick one question and write a blog post for the IWSG blog next time.
Everyone bugs me to blog about me now and then and not just the news stuff. People want to hear about us. That's how they get to know us.

    1. Of course, you're right. I'm interested in you just as everyone is. So, does that mean if I can do it, you can do it?

  4. I've always thought of myself as boring. I can't even hold a telephone conversation - I can't think of anything to say. Once the weather, how do you feel, and how are the kids are out of the way - I'm bored. :)
I think it may be the same with you - if you're easily bored you just assume others are too? It's why I fill my blogs with book announcements, guest posts, interviews and flash fiction. I hope it's interesting - well, it's not about me, so it has to be right? :)

    1. I know lots of people feel this way. Some are just better than others at getting people to talk. A required skill in our business. Thanks, Yolanda. Merry Christmas.

  5. Joylene, I'd never EVER thought of you as boring. I think of you as thoughtful and wise and confident. As for blogging, I'm posting about once a month now. There's just not enough time in the day to do other stuff (like live life) and spend the time needed at the computer. Also, it feels like blogging has changed -- hard to put into words, but it doesn't seem to be the easy-breezy Blogville of yore. There seems to be a certain hesitation about putting ourselves out there like before. Of course, that could just be me, probably is. Anyway, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, my friend. Hope it's the merriest ever!

    1. You're absolutely right, Kittie. I feel it too. I have for some time. Is it because we see so many being criticized? Not sure. And there are so many blogs on the subject of blogging. A bit overwhelming, I think. Thanks for your input. I'm going to try and blog more often.

  6. Hey, Joylene, I think it depends on the individual. Having said that, I have a family member who's Taurean, and put it this way, you wouldn't elect to be stuck in an elevator with her!
As one of your other commenters here said, you have always come across to me as someone who is considerate and contemplative and assured.

Re your blog itself, Alex had some good points, I thought.
It is nice to hear from the blog's author, and to know there's a real person in the background.

    1. I think the change came when I decided reading about help topics from Phyllis was much more interesting than listening to me whine. I still feel that way, but I do think Phyllis needs her own special day. I'm going to ponder that subject some more. Thanks for your thoughts on this. Merry Christmas.

  7. Boring is not a word I have associated with you in my thoughts, since our acquaintance. Creative, interesting, confident, someone who has it all together and enjoying life doing what they love. Now you will have tell me if any of that is untrue, because that is how I have imagined you. You are a creative, a writer with a great imagination and you have books to prove it, lol. It not about being the funniest and wittiest, but I get that because I think the same about myself. It is about being you and what interest you that makes people read.

  8. PS Those Taurus traits are why you have books to show for your imagination:
    Generous
    Dependable
    Down to earth
    Patient
    Independent
    Persistent
    Talented
    Family Oriented

  9. I don't know any Taurus types/ Taureans and I have never felt your writing is boring, so I don't think your life could be. As Alex says, the IWSG posts are you - well I thought they were. (Which is why I behave.)

  10. You're a writer. You can't be boring. People without imaginations are boring.

  11. L Diane has it right. You write murder mysteries. Your mind must always be contemplating fearful heroines and dangerous villains. How can you be boring? I know some Taureans (incl one of my awesome CPs). They aren't boring. They're hard workers and very family oriented. They're loyal friends and very generous with time, help, money, etc. It would be nice if you blogged more than once a month. (But I might not be blogging at all if I hadn't rashly volunteered to run the Celebrate hop. Now I have to blog once a week, even if I just relate silly stories or progress on my writing.) I don't think blog posts have to be brilliant and illuminating - they can be just personal fun stuff that might interest others. I hope the answers you get on this post help you. :)

  12. You have a life-time of things to share and even just giving your opinion on things is interesting. I make notes through the week on things I might want to blog about. When I go into a bookstore, I take notes on things I want to blog about. If I flip through a magazine I make notes on what I want to blog about. I'm looking forward to hearing more from you in 2016.

  13. I haven't found your blog boring. If I had I wouldn't keep returning to see what you have to say! However, I must say that I worry about the same thing. Must be that Insecurity lurking and ready to pounce. Merry Christmas. Happy New Year.

  14. Hey Joylene,

Never mind all that boring blog rubbish, eh! Besides, putting informative Phyllis off to one side, oops, sorry, Phyllis, you are an intriguing blogger, a darned fine writer and most importantly, a thoroughly decent human being. As for thank Hank fellow, I haven't a clue what he's on about at the best of times!

    Have a hoser-type holiday, eh!

  15. Joylene, I'm shocked that you think you're boring. You seem so knowledgeable and self-assured. A person who writes suspense thrillers can NEVER be boring.
I'm the boring one! Well, I always imagine that I'm boring...
